Once it's down, engineered hardwood looks and feels like solid hardwood, because the surface is hardwood. The difference is underneath. A layered core resists the swelling and shrinking that wet winters and dry summers put a solid plank through, so it stays flatter in a Vancouver home. Depending on your subfloor and the product, we nail it down, glue it down or float it (lay it loose over an underlayment).

- Homes where the floor is part of the look, and where resale matters.
- Main floors and upstairs. Bathrooms and basements are better served by luxury vinyl plank.
- Anyone who wants real oak, maple or hickory underfoot.
What's included
- Removing the old flooring or carpet and hauling it away.
- Checking the subfloor. Hardwood needs it flat, dry and solid; if it needs repair, we price that before we start.
- Installing the planks: nail-down, glue-down or floating, whichever your subfloor and the product call for.
- Taking baseboards off and putting them back, plus transitions at doorways.
- Cleanup when the installers leave. You clear furniture, appliances and anything else out of the rooms first; we take it from there.
How it goes
It starts with a call or the estimate form. We come to your home, look at the rooms and give you a written estimate the same day. Then we bring samples so you can see the species and color next to your trim and in your light. Once you approve and the 50% deposit is in, we order the material. Install is usually 1 to 3 days on site, and the whole thing usually runs 1 to 2 weeks from first call to finished floor. The same person who did your estimate walks the floor with you at the end, and workmanship is covered for a year.
